I can not Thank enough the Class of 87 for hosting a golf tournament for me this coming February 6th at Windcrest Country Club.
I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma Bone Cancer April 2010. I am a proud member of Class of 1987 and a member of the 1985 State Football Championship team.
Like most after graduation I worked various jobs and became a Bexar County Deputy Sheriff March of 1990. I worked various assignments within the sheriff's office until January of 2000 when I was hire by San Marcos police Department.
...
While employed with the San Marcos police department I worked patrol, school resource officer and held the position of Vice-President within the San Marcos Police Officer's Association. While VP I initiated numerous programs for the community such as an Easter Egg hunt which was open for the entire city and its community. We had well over 1000 children come out and enjoy the festivities. I initiated a Halloween candy give away so children could see the police in a different light as opposed to just seeing us giving Mom and Dad tickets or worst arresting them.
When I was diagnosed I went in for surgery April 27 2010 at Northeast Baptist. The tumor was located on my right pelvic bone area so the doctor cut my right pelvic bone and right hip. They installed a titanium rod on my femor bone and attached it to some muscles on my back. The femoral nerve was damaged during the surgery and I can not use my right leg. It became painfully evident I could not return to my position as police officer.
Almost a year to the date of my surgery I started running fevers which no one could explain. An abscess had developed in my pelvic area and it was drained. Well October of 2010 came and that abscess had not healed so doctors felt it would be best to do a Colostomy in an effort to redirect any bacteria from the pelvic area. October 6th a Colostomy was done and the fight continues.
I have had 32 rounds of radiation and 3 different regimens of Chemotherapy. After the 2nd regimen of Chemotherapy my Oncologist said it did not have an affect on the tumor and asked me what did I want to do. He said he could make me comfortable from here on out or he was prepared to make another regimen for me. I told him I'm going out swinging. He placed his hand on my shoulder and said God Bless you Emilio. I started my 3rd regimen and as of last CT results the tumors are shrinking at a slow rate.
It has been a long 2 year journey but with prayers and support from friends and family have kept me going. That's why I was humbled by my fellow classmates when they offered to host this Golf Tournament. I can not thank you all enough.
God Bless each and everyone of you all.
